THE PRESENTATION OF OUR LORD

Today is the 40th day since Christmas and it is an important day. The question is what is imprtant about today? Since around 381 A.D. some in the chrsitian tradition has celebrated the presentation of Jesus in the temple. It was always celebrated 40 days after the christmas celebration. The reasons for this is found in Luke 2:22
And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

According to Leviticus 12 if a women had a boy the days of purifying was 40 days if a girl 80. When the time was complete she brought Jesus to the Temple. What happened in the temple is what is remembered today.
