CHURCH HISTORY

Recently Vice Presidential candidate Joe Biden said, "When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened,'"

There are a few problems with this statement:

Republican Herbert Hoover was in office when the stock market crashed in October 1929. There also was no television at the time; TV wasn't introduced to the public until a decade later, at the 1939 World's Fair.

This demonstrates in a vivid way an important point. Many Americans are completely ignorant of history! What is even worse is that most Christians today have almost no knowledge of the faith they claim to believe in! Stand in the parking lot of any church in your town and ask a few of these questions:

What was significant about the Council of Chalcedon?

What is Arianism?

What Church council addressed Arianism?

Who was Athanasius?

Name the 7 Ecumenical Councils?

Most people you ask will have no idea what you are talking about!

At Victory Baptist Church we strive to ensure people are taught Church History.

Here is Part 1 of my message, The Seven Ecumenical councils.

Is your Church teaching Church History? If not, why not?
