Jehovah's Witnesses Don't Appear to Witness?

What's sad is that I know the Jehovah's Witnesses have seen my posting on their erroneous views of John 3:16 and the idea that Jesus Christ is a created being...after all, at least Edward did a "drive-by" posting a few days ago. He made some claims but never substantiated anything he said...and it appears he won't engage the issue and discuss it.

Now in all fairness, he could be busy, out of town, etc...so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. However, in the past I've never had a Jehovah's Witness that would stand for what he believes and really examine what the Watchtower proclaims as truth. They would rather blindly follow the Watchtower despite the fact that a clear exegesis of many passages totally refutes their claims.

My prayer is that if you are watching Edward that you will return and engage the issue. After all, JW's claim to have the only truth out there...if that's true and if you are Jehovah's only true witnesses, why won't you, or any of the other JWs engage the issue and answer the questions.

I believe you are watching...I've seen you on several other blogs and I know this is something that you do on a fairly regular basis. Come on back, let's chat!

I am not sure of the post to which you are referring.

Also, why do you assume that I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses?

Are you simply blindly labeling?

As to erroneous views of John 3:16... It does appear that the Witnesses have the correct view as it says that God gave his only begotten son.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." That is the KJV so no translational arguments here.

JWs believe that God gave his son. Jehovah God gave his son, Jesus. Died for us. So that we believe in him we get life.

The fact that the term son is used there indicated that the ones to whom he was speaking would understand the father/son relationship. So what was true of his listeners would be true of him and is father.

What we have is God and the fact that he loved the world of mankind. And that there was also a son. He gave this son as a sacrifice. Those that believe in him have everlasting life.

JWs believe that. God did not give himself. The term son indicates that he is younger and proceeded from his Father, who would be God. If the son was not created, then the term brother would have been used.

Graham,
Thanks for the post. Did you read what I said though? Hopefully you read my post on Dec 9 "Response to a Jehovah's Witness, Part 1"...What does the word monogenes actually mean? How does your interpretation hold up given what I said on the Hebrews passage? Clearly the word does not mean what you and the JWs force it to mean. Now your issue is on the deity of Christ...Jesus is the eternal Son of God...so He is referring to God the Father here and is crying out in His humanity. The humanity and the deity of Christ are inseparably interwoven in the God-man.

Here is a passage that I'd like you to consider...and you can reply on...

Hebrews 1:5-9- "For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? 6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. 7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. 8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows."

This is God speaking and He is talking to His Son, right? Look at verse 8...God calls His Son "God"...then in verse 9 God says to His Son again, "therefore God, even thy God, hath annointed thee..."

Jesus is God! There are hundreds of verses I could quote to you...maybe I'll start a post on the deity of Christ. Anyone that denies the deity of Christ is not reading the Bible very closely.

PS We deleted my previous comment because I goofed a word when I typed it...this is the correction.

I've found very few Jehovah's Witnesses willing to discuss their views. Even at the front door, most of the time that I've tried to have a discussion, they say they have to keep going door to door. On my blog, I instituted a policy on my blog that any JW who leaves a comment, but doesn't continue the conversation, will have their comment deleted. It's done little to motivate them to check back.

Thanks,
Bill
